FACELIFT COST IN SEOUL 2026: SMAS, DEEP PLANE, MINI-LIFT

What a facelift actually costs in Seoul in 2026, broken down by technique, clinic tier, hospital stay, and the fees international patients tend to miss.

A facelift in Seoul in 2026 typically runs ₩11,000,000 to ₩32,000,000 all-in, or roughly $8,000 to $23,500 USD, depending on technique, surgeon seniority, whether a neck lift is bundled, and how many hospital nights the clinic includes. That range covers everything from a targeted mini-lift at a mid-tier Gangnam clinic to a full deep-plane procedure with a veteran surgeon in Apgujeong. This guide breaks the quote line by line so you can plan a surgery trip without guessing what the price sheet will look like when you sit down for consultation.

WHAT THE 2026 SEOUL FACELIFT PRICE RANGE ACTUALLY COVERS

The Seoul market prices facelifts by technique first and by surgeon second. A SMAS plication, the most common approach, sits at the lower end because it lifts the muscle layer with sutures rather than dissecting through it, which shortens surgery time. Full SMAS with skin flap dissection lands mid-range. A deep-plane facelift, where the surgeon releases the retaining ligaments and repositions the mid-face as a single composite unit, occupies the top tier because it takes longer, requires more advanced training, and generally produces the longest-lasting result. Mini-lifts and short-scar variants sit below all three, but they only address the lower face and jawline, not the mid-cheek or neck.

A quote in Seoul almost always includes the surgery itself, anesthesia, one or two nights of hospital stay, standard post-op medication, three to five follow-up visits, and suture removal. What it usually does not include is the pre-op blood panel and ECG if you did not do them in Seoul, prescription pain medication beyond the first week, and any adjunct treatments the surgeon recommends during recovery such as Rejuran for scar softening or skin boosters to speed skin quality recovery. Compression garments and specialty facial wraps are usually included; a second garment if you want a backup is not.

The 10 percent Korean VAT is inconsistently handled. Some clinics quote VAT-inclusive numbers on the international pricing sheet and some do not. Always ask the coordinator to confirm in writing whether the figure quoted is pre-VAT or post-VAT before you wire a deposit. Our VAT and KRW pricing guide walks through the traps in detail, and they apply as much to a ₩20,000,000 surgery deposit as they do to a ₩400,000 injection.

FACELIFT PRICES IN SEOUL BY TECHNIQUE IN 2026

Here is the working range international patients are seeing quoted in 2026 across mid-tier and top-tier clinics in Gangnam, Apgujeong, and Cheongdam. These numbers assume a general anesthesia case with one hospital night included. Local anesthesia mini-lifts run lower. Surgeries with a senior board-certified plastic surgeon who has a public patient portfolio tend to sit at the top of each band.

  • 01Mini-lift or short-scar lift (lower face, jawline only): ₩5,500,000 to ₩11,000,000, about $4,000 to $8,000 USD
  • 02SMAS plication facelift: ₩11,000,000 to ₩18,000,000, about $8,000 to $13,200 USD
  • 03Full SMAS with skin flap: ₩15,000,000 to ₩23,000,000, about $11,000 to $16,900 USD
  • 04Deep-plane facelift: ₩20,000,000 to ₩32,000,000, about $14,700 to $23,500 USD
  • 05Neck lift add-on when booked with any of the above: ₩3,500,000 to ₩7,500,000, about $2,600 to $5,500 USD
  • 06Fat grafting to mid-face, temples, or tear troughs bundled with the lift: ₩2,500,000 to ₩5,000,000, about $1,800 to $3,700 USD

The gap between SMAS plication and deep plane is where most international patients get pushed during consultation. Coordinators often present the deep-plane option once they see a foreign passport, sometimes with a same-day discount to bridge the difference. That is worth taking seriously only if the surgeon actually specialises in deep-plane work with visible cases to show. If the clinic only does deep planes a few times a month, the SMAS plication or full SMAS with the same surgeon is usually the better trade. Our post on avoiding consultation upsell covers how to hold the line without walking out.

CLINIC TIER AND SURGEON SENIORITY: WHAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY PAYING FOR

Facelift pricing in Seoul splits into three practical tiers. Mid-tier clinics, generally around Sinnonhyeon or Seocho, quote SMAS plication in the ₩11,000,000 to ₩14,000,000 range with a competent board-certified plastic surgeon who does 40 to 80 facelifts a year. Established Gangnam-and-Apgujeong clinics quote the same procedure at ₩14,000,000 to ₩18,000,000 with a senior surgeon, better nursing ratios, and typically two nights of hospital stay bundled. Boutique Cheongdam and Apgujeong practices that draw international patients specifically for anti-aging surgery quote ₩18,000,000 to ₩23,000,000 for SMAS and up to ₩32,000,000 for deep plane, and the premium buys volume experience with foreigner facial anatomy, English-fluent coordinators, and a longer post-op follow-up window.

Volume matters more than marketing. A useful question during consultation is how many facelifts the specific surgeon, not the clinic, performs monthly. A surgeon doing four to eight lifts a month is in a good rhythm. Below two a month, the deep-plane premium is hard to justify because that technique compounds with repetition. Above ten a month, you may be quoted a fatigue schedule that puts your case at 5pm on a Friday, which is not what you want. Facial anatomy comparisons for Caucasian and Southeast-Asian patients differ from Korean cases in fat pad distribution and skin thickness, so a surgeon who regularly operates on foreigners will plan the vector of pull differently. Ask to see before-and-afters on faces that look like yours.

The Apgujeong premium clinic district concentrates the highest tier of anti-aging surgeons, and prices reflect it. Sinnonhyeon and Seocho give up some of the polish but usually with the same board certification and, in some cases, the same surgeons who trained at the Apgujeong flagships before opening their own practice.

HOW MUCH IS THE TRIP GOING TO COST END TO END?

The surgery invoice is only part of the number. A realistic Seoul facelift trip runs 14 to 21 days on the ground: three days for consultation and pre-op panels, one to two nights inpatient, then 10 to 16 days for the early swelling curve to drop enough that you can fly home without pressure discomfort or visible bruising through makeup. Budget accordingly. The additional line items add up faster than most patients plan for, especially at premium hotels within walking distance of the clinic for daily dressing changes.

  • 01Accommodation, 18 nights in a serviced Gangnam or Apgujeong apartment: ₩3,200,000 to ₩6,500,000, about $2,350 to $4,800 USD
  • 02Post-op wound care visits already bundled in the surgery quote, so budget zero extra
  • 03Prescription medication beyond week one, over-the-counter arnica, and specialty scar gels: ₩150,000 to ₩350,000, about $110 to $260 USD
  • 04Return airport transfer and taxi to daily follow-ups: ₩250,000 to ₩500,000, about $185 to $370 USD
  • 05Optional recovery adjuncts (LED sessions, lymphatic drainage massage packages): ₩600,000 to ₩1,600,000, about $440 to $1,180 USD
  • 06Business-class or premium economy flight home for comfort with head elevation, delta over economy: $600 to $2,200 USD depending on origin

For a mid-range SMAS lift with one night hospital and 18 nights of accommodation, plan for a ₩15,000,000 to ₩22,000,000 all-in trip cost before flights, or roughly $11,000 to $16,200 USD. For deep plane at a top Apgujeong clinic with a longer recovery window, the number climbs to ₩26,000,000 to ₩38,000,000, roughly $19,100 to $27,900 USD. The real cost of a Seoul aesthetic trip breakdown applies the same framework to smaller procedures, and the ratio of visible price to total trip cost is similar.

DEPOSITS, CANCELLATION POLICIES, AND HOW PAYMENT WORKS

Most Seoul plastic surgery clinics quoting a facelift ask for a 20 to 30 percent deposit to hold the surgery date, wired from your bank in USD or paid via a Wise transfer in KRW to reduce FX losses. The balance is due on the day of surgery, and clinics accept international credit cards for the balance more often than the deposit. Amex acceptance is patchy above ₩10,000,000 due to processor limits, so plan on Visa or Mastercard, and ask your card issuer to pre-authorise a large single transaction to avoid a decline at the front desk on surgery morning. Some clinics apply a 2.5 to 3.5 percent surcharge for foreign card payments to cover the acquirer fee. That surcharge is negotiable if you ask before the day.

Cancellation policies vary. Reputable clinics refund the deposit minus a 500,000 to 1,500,000 KRW admin fee if you cancel more than 21 days out. Inside 14 days, expect to forfeit the full deposit. Force majeure like a rejected medical clearance or a positive pre-op infection screen is usually refundable in full, but only if the finding comes from the clinic's own pre-op panel, not a note from your home doctor. Get the cancellation terms in writing in English before you wire anything, and confirm the exact bank account name matches the clinic's legal entity, not a third-party facilitator.

HOW TO COMPARE QUOTES WITHOUT GETTING CONFUSED

Ask every clinic for the same five-line breakdown: technique, whether neck lift and fat grafting are included, hospital nights included, VAT status, and total number of follow-up visits. That converts wildly different marketing sheets into an apples-to-apples grid. Add a sixth line for surgeon name and monthly facelift volume, because that number correlates more tightly with outcomes than any other single variable in this category. Our how to read a Korean clinic price menu guide has the full framework, and the same discipline applies to a ₩25,000,000 quote as to a ₩400,000 filler quote.

Three quotes is the working minimum for a surgery this size. Five is better if you can budget the consultation time, because the third and fourth surgeons will start telling you what the first two got wrong, and that is where the education actually happens. Consultation fees in Seoul range from free to ₩100,000 depending on tier, and they are almost always credited back if you book. Plan the consultations back to back on a single trip so you can compare same-week impressions rather than trusting a memory of a chair from a month ago.
